Merchandise imports for January 2009 declined sharply by 31.5% to $93.1 million when compared with the level of imported goods in the same period last year.

First quarter Gross Domestic Product figures for 2009, show that the Belizean economy contracted by 2.2% in real terms when compared with the same period of 2008.

The Inflation Rate for 2008 stood at 6.4% with the Food, Beverage and Tobacco Commodity Group standing at 13.3%
